FIMS Membership Options?  

There are 5 different membership options:

  • Individual mermbership
  • Institutional / libary membership
  • Counrty membership
  • fellowship membership
  • Assocciation membership

Option 1: FIMS Individual membership:

FIMS Individual membership is open to any individual with any of the following criteria:

  • in posession of a doctoral degree in medicine or a related science
  • completed a FIMS approved course of sports medicine or
  • has worked in the field of Sports Medicine for at least 5 years  

If you fullfill these criteria, it is really easy to become a FIMS Individual member and recieve the benefits immediately. First, just confirm with your National Association that you are not eligable for the FIMS National Association block membership option (see Option 2 below). If not and you reside in a country where there is no National Association, or where the National Association has not yet decided to subscribe its members to FIMS as a group, then you can apply immediately using the online application and payment procedure.

Individual member of FIMS through a block subscription by a National Association member of FIMS:

You can also gain FIMS individual membership status if you are a member of any FIMS National Asssociation that has applied for National Association block membership of FIMS. This application process for FIMS Individual Membership status has been granted to all National Association members, where such a National Association has decided to subscribe all its members or a large subgroup of its members. This "Association Membership" is offered at a very low cost per member per annum to such an association.

If you are not sure whether your National Association has made use of this option for you, please contact the Secretary or President of your National Association directrly to enquire. 

If your National Associations wishes to enquire about this option the President or Secretary can contact the Secretary General of FIMS to recieve the necessary application forms and further details.

Option 2: FIMS Institutional / Libary membership

FIMS Institutional membership is open to any institution that meets the following criteria:

Option 3: FIMS country membership

Any country with a National Sports Medicine Association may apply for National Association membership to FIMS. The details of the requirements for a country to become a member of FIMS are in the FIMS statutes.

Any enquiries by a potential new National Association member must be directed to the secretary general of FIMS.

Option 4: FIMS fellowship membership

 

Any enquiries for a fellowship membership must be directed to the secretary general of FIMS.

Option 5: FIMS association membership

Apart from individual members, FIMS encourages associations to become members. These member associations are grouped under three main categories:

· Multinational Sports Medicine Associations
· Continental Sports Medicine Associations
· National Sports Medicine Associations

The Multinational and Continental Sports Medicine Associations are arranged alphabetically by the title of the Association, while the National Sports Medicine Associations are under the country that the Association represents. Most entries contain detailed contact information for each Association listed, a brief description of the Association's function, as well as its publications.
