Job Description:
Faculty position in the Division of Sports Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Children's Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School Individual will assume Directorship of a new athletic performance center for injury prevention and health protection for the child and adolescent athlete. Build out on the center will begin July 28, 2011 with expected opening for January 2012.
The Director of the athletic performance center will be responsible for all of the aspects of the center:
1. The development and dissemination of safe and effective sports training protocols for children.
2. The development of research projects for fitness and health improvement through exercise and sports in children.
3. The development and implementation of sports injury prevention training for children.
4. The development of teaching protocols for the training of coaches and athletic trainers in sports safety, injury prevention and health and fitness improvement for children.
5. Coordination and assistance to research efforts of the entire Children's Hospital Boston which relate to safe sports training, health and fitness training or studies of sports and exercise which improve the health of children.
Requirements:
This individual should have an MD; MD, PhD; or equivalent degree with advanced training in sports and exercise medicine and science with at least five years of focused work and experience including exercise in children as evidenced by a supporting bibliography of refereed and non-refereed research publications.
Experience in the management of a research and clinical center in children’s exercise would also be useful.
In addition to directing the research center, this individual will have the opportunity to see patients in the Primary Care Sports Medicine section of the Division of Sports Medicine. Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required.
Academic appointment at Harvard Medical School will be based on the level of credentials of the applicant.
