Contents:
This issue includes review articles on exercise, a variety infections and the impact on the athlete.
The articles examine the risks to the immune system of training with infections such as, upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), the effect of exercise on mucosal immunity, and how this may predispose the athlete to the development of infections. Still related to infections of the immune system and training, the role of nutritional interventions is examined. A new perspective on evaluating immune function associated with intense exercise is discussed.
What limits exercise in individuals with HIV/AIDS looks at the factors affecting exercise performance in HIV positive individuals.
The problem of skin infections in athletes is discussed, as well as the risks posed by tropical infections, specifically malaria, bilharzia and African tick bite fever, to athletes travelling to endemic areas in Africa.
